SETTING KEY FRAMES IN 3DS MAX
And how it can be actually amazing.
When producing an animation in 3ds max there are two key modes which are auto key and set key, auto key automatically saves any change you should make to a frame whereas set key is manual and if you want to save a position you have to save it yourself (not that much effort but man will always find a way to be lazier, no?).
If you are not in a key mode and alter the pose of your rig then all the frames will alter as well. If you move the rig upwards without a set mode then the rig as a whole throughout the animation will also move upwards. Precautions must be taken!
This shows you what you see and what you can have key framed and can be very important. If you however do not need to see IK Parameters and the like do not have them checked as it will only overcomplicate and confuse your animating process.
Pressing the large key button sets a key frame and also pull up keys that are red and green. Green represents rotation and Red represents position. If there were any blue keys then that would be scale.
The idea of movement and rotation is exactly the same as it is in Maya, so ultimately it is quite simple to understand.
To remove a key you highlight the key and press delete.
Alt right click accesses the animation quad menu and you can also delete all the key frames from an animation here.
